Canada

The true north, strong and free can be a pain in the butt, and I don't miss freezing my keester off in the endless winters; but I miss the nature and friends and family. Canada's not cheap and not as friendly as it's reputed to be, but it's safe and clean. I'm not sure there's another place I'd rather spend August in. Welcome to 'Boring Heaven.'

Musical ride, Roblin, Manitoba, 1992
Nice show, but watch your step. Vancouver, British Columbia, 1996
B.C.: 'Bring cash'. It gets pretty foggy.. but there's always Photoshop. Saskatchewan Grainfield, 1992
Where you can watch your dog run away for two days etc. etc. Be careful with that joke.. let's just say they've heard it already and are a leetle sensitive about it.. Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, 1996
Everybody photographs the famous lighthouse, but it's a nice village too. The population is 50; I think I got them all in one picture! Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, 2001
The old riding of Prime Minister Diefenbaker, here depicted telling the Gov. General to 'pull my finger.' Jackfish Lake, Manitoba, 1992
I was a summer camp counselor there. If you can't get the kids to bath, maybe they'll swim.. Guelph University, Ontario, 1998
You can tell the time anywhere on campus. Oh, those crafty Ontarians think of everything! Smoked Meats, Montreal, 2000
Montreal is famous for smoked meat. And in old Montreal, it looked like the people there would smoke anything! Stanley Park, Vancouver, 1996
There are many old native Indian totem poles throughout the province, even at the airport. The totem icicles were not such a successful experiment. Halifax, Nova Scotia, 1996
Halifax is a beautiful antique maritime city. The drivers stop if you think about crossing the street. These pedestrians wouldn't last long where I'm from. Vancouver Inlet, Near Gallant Wharf, 2006
There's nothing that makes you feel so young and free as boating past properties you will never, ever be able to afford. Beauty Salon, Creston, BC, 1991
"We're going with a Goth theme this year, yes, that's it." Stanley Park Maiden, Vancouver, 1996
Cold, stony, and unmoving. But enough about western Canadian women. Vancouver Suspension Bridge, 2004
Hey there, there goes a Spiderman... wait, he must be stuck in traffic somewhere.. The best sushi I've had in the world was in.. Vancouver. And the little boats made lunch fun. Not the bill fun, but lunch. Kimberly Platzel, BC, 1997
Much of the town is modeled after Alpine skiing lodges. Notice the authentic European Radio Shack. Turboprop Instrument Panel, Halifax Airport, 2004
Friendly guys who invited me up to see the front. Not something that happens a lot after 9/11, but it wasn't exactly a 747. South of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, 1992
There is always something exciting in Saskatchewan. "I hear this year they're painting the bicycle brown. Boy, let the good times roll!" Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, 1998
This was not a horror movie set, but Fort Anne, where the colony's governor and militia were stationed in the 18th century. Basilica, Montreal, 2000
"We started out with this nice glow-in-the-dark crucifix from the dollar store, and, you know, one thing just led to another." Toronto Sausage Cart, 2000
Of all the things, I photograph sausage. But to me it symbolizes the city. Earthy and what you see is what you get. Victoria Ferry Terminal, 1989
I was only in Victoria briefly and I liked it a lot, particularly after coming out of a cold Edmonton spring. In a Canadian April every degree helps. Disco Street, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, 1997
With a name like Disco Street it deserves to be memorialized. Unfortunately, no souvenir polyester suits could be found. Christchurch Cathedral, Fredericton, 2004
Where my friends Mark & Kim got married. Nice church and very British. I can still smell the warm beer and bad food! Confederation Tower, Ottawa, 1998
I've always been to Ottawa only at night. Or maybe it's eternally dark there. Mountains near Kimberly, BC, 1997
Pretty little town in interior BC with a frontier mentality that once petitioned to join Alberta! Downtown Vancouver, 1996
A photo of the nightly 9:12 PM traffic jam— or was this the 9:14 jam? Possibly it was the daily 9:16 PM jam as well. Boat Rigging, Halifax, 1996
A week stop-off on my way back to Newfoundland. Your body needs to acclimatize itself to all that beer. Niagara Falls, Ontario, 1998
Why do waterfalls have visiting hours? Do they turn them off at night? Dalhousie Campus, Halifax, 1996
"If we want to be ivy league we need actual ivy, dammit!" Shushwap Lake, BC, 1996
A hotspot for boating, skiing, and amusing Indian names. Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, Nova Scotia, 1996
All that tourist fuss for a lighthouse. Will future tourists travel hours to see an airport tower? Hell's Gate, BC, 1989
A few people got pretty nervous on the sky tram. Well, it's not called Fluffy Kittens Gate! Empress Hotel, Victoria, 1989
Beautiful 19th century buildings all over downtown. Well, what type of architecture were you expecting in "Victoria"? Icelandic? Fredericton Park, New Brunswick, 2004
The locals were a 'little' aloof, in the same way that Israel and Palestine have experienced a 'little' tension.
